Not all developers are the same: If you’re a mobile developer or architect, your tools, challenges, methods and questions are all different from other development teams.
As Couchbase ConnectONLINE approaches, I wanted to let all the mobile developers and edge computing architects know about key sessions at the conference that are tailored to your particular needs and interests. Of course, there are a lot of mobile and edge sessions at the two-day conference that include customer use cases and product news, but I’d like to highlight just a few great sessions to help you plan your itinerary.
If you’re new to Couchbase Mobile offerings, here’s a quick rundown: Couchbase Lite is the embeddable version of Couchbase that’s integrated directly to mobile apps and devices. Couchbase Lite can synchronize data with other Couchbase Lite instances via Peer-to-Peer sync. Then there’s Sync Gateway that provides bi-directional synchronization between Couchbase Lite instances and Couchbase Server. This stack enables a distributed edge computing architecture that provides ultra-low latency and 100% uptime for mobile apps.
Here are the six Couchbase Connect sessions you won’t want to miss on mobile app development and edge computing:
Day 1 Must-See Sessions for Edge Computing Architects & Mobile Devs
On 20 October, start your day off right by attending the Day 1 keynote session. In addition to great talks from Matt Cain (Couchbase CEO & President), Scott Anderson (SVP, Product Management & Business Operations), and Sabina Joseph (GM, AWS Americas Technology Partners), you don’t want to miss Madhav Mekala, Principal Architect at PepsiCo.
Madhav will talk about PepsiCo’s Journey to Inventory Management Modernization. You’ll learn how PepsiCo partnered with Couchbase to architect an offline-available solution for field sales reps working in retail locations. It’s a fascinating story about mobile development that you won’t want to miss!
Later on Day 1 of the conference, be sure to catch the breakout session Edge Computing for Fast Apps & Services: How AWS, Verizon and Couchbase Deliver Ultra-Low Latency. In this session I’ll be moderating a panel discussion with experts from AWS, Verizon and Couchbase’s own Wayne Carter, VP Engineering, Mobile & Edge Computing. We’ll discuss the emerging AWS and Verizon edge services landscape and talk about how customers leverage them across a variety of use cases. If you have questions on how to get started with your own edge computing initiatives, definitely put this session on your schedule.
After that, tune in for the breakout session Choosing the Best Deployment Architecture for Couchbase Mobile on AWS where our own Priya Rajagopal, Director of Product Management, Mobile & Edge Computing, and Justin Ashworth, Senior Software Engineer, will talk about the recommended deployment reference architecture for Couchbase on AWS. Discover how easy it is to jumpstart a mobile app deployment using Couchbase templates, and then learn how to customize those templates to suit your specific needs. If you’re deploying mobile apps on AWS, this is another “must see” session!
Day 2 Must-See Sessions for Edge Computing Architects & Mobile Devs
On 21 October, I recommend you start the day by watching the Day 2 keynote featuring our CTO Ravi Mayuram who will discuss why modern applications require distributed data backbones that are reliable, resilient and dynamic as they operate from the cloud to the edge.
During the keynote session, Priya Rajagopal will again take the stage to discuss Modern Apps at the Edge: Fast and Reliable, where she’ll explain how Couchbase supports edge computing. Priya will also preview the key features in the upcoming Couchbase Lite and Sync Gateway releases, which will further meet the demands of modern real-time apps.
Rounding out the Day 2 keynote presentations, don’t miss Edge Computing For Ultra-Low-Latency Applications: The IDC Perspective. Dave McCarthy, Research VP of Cloud & Edge Infrastructure Services at IDC, will talk about his latest research on the emerging edge services landscape, and highlight the Couchbase latency benchmark test results on edge service zones from AWS and Verizon.
For Day 2 breakouts, there are many more mobile and edge sessions spread out across the tracks, including developer-focused technical sessions and customer use case sessions. Out of all these awesome sessions, I highly recommend you attend Edge Computing with Couchbase: Applications & Architectures, presented by Priya Rajagopal. In this session, Priya will discuss data management, data movement, data storage and data privacy at the edge, as well as use cases that benefit from distributed edge topologies. You will leave with an understanding of how Couchbase makes it all work smoothly.
See You at Couchbase Connect!
There’s so much more to Couchbase Connect than just these few sessions for mobile developers and edge computing architects. Across this two-day conference, you’ll hear from NoSQL experts, enterprise customers and Couchbase partners who will share their stories, insights and best practices.
